Safety on Commuter Rail Lines

At Veolia Transportation, we know safety is the critical foundation upon which everything else is built. That’s why the protection and security of our passengers and employees is our number one priority, always.

Our goal is not just to meet regulatory requirements—it’s to exceed them. We work closely with local, regional and national safety professionals and authorities, including the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to ensure our compliance and high standards.

We collaborate with our clients to continuously monitor and improve operational safety, providing ongoing safety training to our staff in many different aspects of safety performance. We comply with or exceed FRA requirements for Critical Operating Rules Tests, a formalized rail industry technique for evaluating an engineer or conductor’s understanding of the meaning and application in action of rail operating rules. The tests are unannounced and are typically conducted by a manager or a team of managers. We execute thousands of these tests every year in our operations. We also execute audits, and implement changes and upgrades wherever necessary.

We’re learning constantly, and we exchange information with Veolia Transport operations around the world. For example, our experience in Israel and the United Kingdom helps us meet the challenges of today’s heightened security environment.

We are uncompromisingly dedicate to passenger and employee safety—it’s everyone’s responsibility.
