We provided New Orleans’ struggling neighborhoods with a new mobility solution.
The Lil’ Easy is a mini-bus service that brings together the best of on-demand and fixed route. With an hour’s advance notice, riders can be picked up or dropped off at any of 24 convenient neighborhood stops.

The Lil’ Easy uses 14-seat Dodge Sprinter vans. It has a unique design, with 24 flexible stops that connect residents to three fixed transfer points, where customers can connect to major fixed routes. The Lil’ Easy is environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient. The vans stop at the three main transfer points on every run. However, they only stop at the flexible stops where passengers have made reservations.

The service was custom-designed to meet the needs of neighborhoods that have not yet returned to their pre-Katrina population levels, but where residents need mobility solutions.

Lil’ Easy was pioneered by Veolia Transport in Europe as a cost-effective “last-mile solution.” A small bus operating on-demand can cover a large service area, so Lil’ Easy can provide public transit at a much lower per-mile cost than fixed route service.

In Virginia, Veolia Transportation launched a similar service called EZ-Bus for our client in Fairfax County, connecting suburban neighborhoods with commuter rail lines. The service received an EPA award for innovation in 2005.
