Our Environnemental Management System

Our EMS Manual details all environmental rules, regulations, compliance activities, and guidelines governing each location and provides the tools to create an internal action plan toward continuous improvement. It has been in place since 2001. It also contains details regarding the management and proper disposal of potentially hazardous materials and waste and provides the basic procedures that ensure people and the environment are protected from risk.

Train-the-Trainer Program

Veolia Transportation believes that environmental compliance and ongoing environmental leadership require a comprehensive, standardized training program. This program ensures that our teams are knowledgeable about and accountable for all environmental requirements.

Our comprehensive ‘Train-the-Trainer’ program was developed internally and has also been in effect since 2001. Supervisory personnel at each location deliver the training to our employees. Some of the subject areas covered by the training include: Community Right-to-Know Program; Employee Right-to-Know Program; Hazardous Waste Management Program; Clean Water Program; Clean Air Program; and the Storage Tank Program.

Our commuter express bus is now certified by California’s Air Resources Board.
'We purchased 26 vehicles for San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) as part of our public-private partnership. We then helped our client achieve environmental certification from the state.

The MTS serves an ethnically diverse urban and suburban area. To serve its resident population, as well as a large number of tourists, MTS changed its business model in 2007, from operating half its bus operations with multiple contractors to consolidating the same half of their bus operations with Veolia Transportation. Under contract to the MTS, we operate 164 fixed route buses, employ nearly 700 people, and serve nearly 20 million passengers each year in this vibrant coastal city.

As part of our new arrangement with the MTS, we purchased 26 new Bluebird 4500 commuter buses, which use Cummin’s diesel engines. We worked closely with MTS and CARB to achieve a CARB-compliant diesel engine, developing the necessary industry applications to meet the State of California’s air quality requirements. We are proud to offer MTS and our other clients with cutting-edge services in order to help them achieve their sustainability goals.
