    Veolia Transportation operates many different types of shuttles, including airport shuttles for rental car centers and employee parking lots, corporate shuttles (which transport employees back and forth to work and around large corporate campuses), university shuttle and bus systems (which carry students, faculty, staff and visitors around campuses), and hospital-based shuttles. But much of what makes an airport function smoothly actually takes place on the ground: employees need to be transferred to their workstations, crews need to be delivered to their planes, and passengers need to be shuttled between parking lots, car rental agencies and terminals.

    University Bus/Shuttle

    Universities are in the business of educating students, so they shouldn’t have to worry about getting them to and from classes. That’s why schools like Northern Illinois University and Johns Hopkins University choose to leave the driving to Veolia. We provide conventional bus services, university shuttles and innovative solutions like our Veloway bike sharing program. We offer a complete and flexible range of bus and shuttle services, including:

    • Designing routes and schedules
    • Procuring and providing vehicles and operators
    • Performing all vehicle maintenance
    • Overall management of shuttle and transit operations

    Veolia works closely with university administrators to design and operate mobility services that meet the unique needs of students, faculty and employees. But we’re more than just a service provider – we’re a partner in the campus community. We’ve provided internships, training and employment to interested students. We’ve even offered our operations as case studies for business school projects.

    Huskie Bus Lines, an enduring partnership between Veolia Transportation and the Northern Illinois University (NIU), is proof that good things happen when need and solutions-oriented thinking meet.

    In 1971, the students at Northern Illinois University wanted shuttle service around campus and surrounding areas in DeKalb. They called on Veolia Transportation and together we created Huskie Bus Lines, a unique university shuttle. Since then, the service has grown from six vehicles to 23, and now operates on biodiesel fuel and is funded 100% from student fees and fare box revenues.

    The service transports two million passengers annually and has an extensive “fare free” area that includes both the NIU campus and parts of the City of DeKalb.

    Nearly 90% of the bus drivers are university students. While faculty members oversee the service contract with Veolia, our talented local staff collaborates with student government and student drivers to provide excellent service. Huskie Bus Lines has the distinction of being Veolia Transportation’s longest-running contract.
